KW @Goodwood Revival 2017

By | Events | No Comments

After a year of absence, the Brooklands Trophy for Sports Cars prior to 1939 was again scheduled for this years Goodwood Revival. Although the success from 2012 – when Max drove our 8C Monza from Germany to Goodwood on the road, won a very close race against a Talbot, drove it back again and therefore rightfully was awarded “Driver of the meeting” – would not be repeatable, we still happily accepted the invitation by Lord March to bring the winner of the Sweden Grand Prix 1933 back to West Sussex.

In the very slippery qualifying on Friday, Moritz secured the sixth best time out of 31 cars announced for the race on Sunday morning, with a Bentley, a Mercedes SSKL, an Aston Martin Brooklands, another Alfa Romeo 8C Monza and the loony Frazer-Nash of Patrick Blakeney-Edwards in front of him.

On Sunday morning it was an early wake-up call for the team as the Brooklands Trophy was the first race of the day. Right from the start, the Monza was afflicted by misfires and therefore only a fraction of the power was available and a couple of cars passed Moritz on the first lap. The attempts to keep the fuel pressure up, unfortunately, did not help to stop misfires. Moritz, regrettably, had to retire the car on the third lap of the race. The inspection in the following week showed that a faulty ignition coil had caused the problem.

Due to splendid driving and a bit of luck with some other cars at the front retiring, young Austrian Niklas Halusa won the race in an Alfa Romeo 8C MM Zagato Spider.

For the 20th time already Lord March showed, that the Revival is rightfully the best event in the vintage racing world. The battles on the track were, as always, great entertainment especially in the closely fought touring car and GT races. Despite the dreadful weather the crowd seemed to fully enjoy the spectacle and the “magical step back in time”. For the future, we hope that the owners of the great original cars are still willing to bring them to Goodwood since the density of replicas racing at Goodwood has noticeably increased in recent years.

KW Test Day @Goodwood

By | Events | No Comments

End of August we held our first Test Day at the Goodwood Motor Circuit. The participants brought some beautiful historic cars including two Alfa Romeo 8C Monzas, an Alfa Romeo P3, an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, a Maserati 250F, a Maserati Tipo 63 “Birdcage” and a Scarab Chevrolet. Despite a very rainy day the drivers and cars performed very well, due to their meticulous preparation by the supporting teams.

Please also check out the onboard video of a lap in our Monza recorded the same day.

Sold: Jaguar XKSS

By | Sold | No Comments

Klassische Automobile (KW Autos) recently sold one of two factory XKSS/D type conversions. After it’s racing history as a D-Type, XKD540 was converted to an XKSS by the Jaguar factory to be used in the sports car hillclimb championship by Phil Scragg. We hope the new owner will enjoy this amazing car at any event he will participate in.
